Voting Question: Help needed in MS Excel formula?

OK. I know how to sum up a sheet. If I want to apply this sum to the whole sheet then i just have to drag it. like =sum(C1:F1). Get it. But what I want to know is if I have to use the "sum" formula from one sheet to another or from one file to another how could i repeat it. Dragging is not working. Like what if I use the formula in sheet 2 "=sum(C1:F1)" which are from sheet 1. How to repeat this formula in multiple rows and columns without applying it repetitively.
